Boasting to your clients is fine - But what's in it for them?

| How many times have you heard the pitch “we are the best, biggest, fastest growing and so on?” |
Ever hear these and think….
“We work with over 75 of the FTSE 100 companies”
So your big clients get the A teams and I will be left with the B or even C team!
“We are the market leader”
Hmmm so big, but will I get any attention? Or will I be better off with a smaller specialist that will really respect my business and work hard to keep me?
“We have won awards”
Never trust a firm which chases awards instead of putting clients first in their priority list
“Here is our brilliant approach to strategy/leadership/finance/marketing”
Great, when do we start talking about me and my needs!
“We work directly with all leading manufacturers”
Well done, so keeping them all happy is your main priority.
These statements sound nice, maybe slightly compelling, but they need to be translated to ‘what’ and ‘how’ you will aid your customer/prospect to become meaningful.
Talk about your client, ask smart questions and demonstrate you are interested and hungry for their business. By asking insightful questions you reveal your capability far better than by boasting about them. Remember: to motivate buyers, describe your products and services in terms of the benefits they provide the customer. Buyers are motivated only by benefits (e.g. convenience, status, time savings, problem solving, cost reduction, profit earning etc)
People naturally want to talk about their favourite subject – themselves. Use this to your advantage and get the prospect to talk about their favourite subject – themselves. You will build rapport and credibility faster than you will by boasting and if handled effectively, you will learn more about their motives and how best to help them whilst securing the business you desire.

Eagle Technologies sales UP thanks to Plus-Ribbon
A huge thank you to all our customers for making January and especially February such an amazing result! Are we seeing signs of recovery???
Thanks to Plus-Ribbon range, an amazing variety of alternative ribbons compatible with Datacard, Zebra, Fargo, Evolis and Magicard card printers, February 2010 sales rose by a whopping 54% when compared to February 2009, 18% up compared to February 2008 and 35% up compared to February 2007.
Vale Added Resellers, system integrators and card printing service providers report major increases in operating profits. We’re also informed that end users are welcoming the huge savings available to aid budget stretching and sustainable recovery.
Card printer sales also increased thanks to Eagle’s 2010 printer awareness campaign which so far has included the Fargo C30e, Datacard SP35 & Zebra P110i.
Furthermore, sales on Evolis range with inclusive onsite warranties continue to perform as peace of mind card printing is sought by both end user and reseller. | Even though most companies claim to put customers at the center of the business, few do. | |
| Too often we look at customers using an “inside-out” perspective — namely by asking what products can we sell them. Instead, Gulati says, we need an “outside-in” view that asks what problems can we solve for them. Take, for example, bagged salad. With our traditional inside-out view of market research, we ask customers about what they like or don’t like about a particular product, say lettuce. How much would you pay for it? Where do you prefer to buy it? But we don’t ask the basic outside-in questions, such as, how does the making and consumption of salad relate to your busy lifestyle? If you asked THAT question at the right time, the answer would have been, “I wish I did eat more salad, but I’m too busy to make them.” And you would have been shown the need for a new market in ready-made bagged salad, which today in the US is a $2.5 billion business. “Answers like that one are almost impossible to uncover when the inquiry is inside-out — when the questions start with the product and then moves to the customer,” Gulati writes. Outside-in companies such as Fresh Express (the bagged salad company) and Best Buy (which redesigned stores to appeal to women) are not only more profitable, they are more likely to do well in a downturn. Describing a four-step process that companies follow to get to outside-in, Gulati says the real moment of power comes in step 3, when companies stop pushing products and instead solve customer problems.
